Patient Rights and Responsibilities
1. Patient Rights
A. Right to Receive Medical Treatment
Patients have the right to receive appropriate healthcare services for the protection and improvement of their health. Their health-related rights shall not be infringed upon
based on gender, age, religion, social status, or economic circumstances, and medical professionals may not refuse treatment without justifiable cause.
B. Right to Information and Self-Determination
Patients may receive sufficient explanation from their attending physician, nurses, and other medical staff regarding their condition, treatment methods, participation in medical research, organ transplantation,
expected outcomes including side effects, and treatment costs, and have the right to ask detailed questions and decide whether to consent.
C. Right to Confidentiality
Patients' physical, health-related, and personal privacy related to medical treatment shall not be violated.
Medical professionals and institutions may not disclose or publish such information except with the patient's consent or as prescribed by law, such as criminal investigations.
D. Right to Request Consultation and Mediation
In the event of a dispute related to medical services, patients may request consultation and mediation from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency or similar organizations.
2. Patient Responsibilities
A. Duty to Trust and Respect Medical Professionals
Patients shall accurately inform medical professionals of their health-related information and trust and respect the treatment plans of medical professionals.
B. Duty Not to Receive Treatment by Fraudulent Means
Patients shall disclose their identity before receiving treatment and shall not receive treatment by fraudulent means, such as using another person's identity.
